About Kim
Hello Everyone! I am a retired art teacher and have taught elementary art, middle school students, and spent the majority of my career teaching high school subjects such as Photography, Graphic Design 1 & 2, Sculpture, Painting 1 & 2, Drawing, Art Foundations, as well as Ceramics and AP Art. I am also a reader for the AP Art 2D Portfolio, if you have questions or need feedback on your portfolio. Professionally, I am a watercolor artist and enjoy both handbuilding with clay and throwing pottery on the wheel. I have been painting watercolor, acrylic, and oils since I was in my teens, and enjoy watercolor the most. I own my kiln and wheel, and have sold my pottery and watercolors at local festivals and art fairs across the U.S. Visit my website, (concealed information) to view custom paintings and drawings. I am a Best of Missouri Hands Artist, Juried in Watercolor, as well as the President Elect of the Missouri Art Education Association. I was known as the "Photoshop Teacher" at school and also know Illustrator. Even though I do not claim to be a professional photographer, I do know how to teach photography to other and exhibit and have sold my photography in galleries. Being a professional artist myself, I know the criteria and expertise of how to get into shows, galleries, exhibits, and even setting up your tent at festivals across the US.
I love art. I love teaching art. I love sharing what I have learned as an artist. I also love learning from my students as well and pushing them to the next level. I am not just an art teacher, but instead, I am a teaching artist.
I have been teaching art since 1991, grades K-12, along with being an adjunct professor for Graphic Design with the University of Missouri St. Louis.
Bachelor of Fine Arts from William Woods University
Masters of Education from University Missouri St. Louis
Juried Watercolor Artist, Best of Missouri Hands
Missouri Teaching Certificate Art K-12
National Board Certified Teaching Certificate, Young Adolescents Art
President Elect of the Missouri Art Education Association

I have a series of online lessons and videos. You will have full access to the resources and materials on a monthly basis. I also offer one-on-one consulting. We meet online and establish a series of learning goals, set up weekly challenges, and meet via Zoom to critique your work.
K-6, Middle School, but most my experience is with high school students. I have also spent my entire teaching career with the Missouri Art Education Association and have led workshops on teaching art techniques and shared best practices with other adults and art teachers. I have experience with private art lessons and demonstrations through local art councils as well.
Look for an art teacher as well as an artist who has the passion to share their expertise with you.
A few years ago, I submitted my Photography 1 student work to a call for professional art exhibitions at the Kirkwood Public Library Gallery. Their work was accepted! The exhibition was such a success, the Kirkwood Public Library has now invited my Photography 1 class to exhibit on a yearly basis without going through the juried process! Students not only learn the art making process, but also the presentation, and exhibition steps it takes to show and sell their art like a professional as well.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what you really want to learn. Is it a general skill like "I want to learn photography" because you are only self-taught, or is it more specific, such as "I want to learn how to draw portraits and hands better." Are you more goal oriented or need help with a specific process, for example, "I want to improve how I paint trees in acrylic to look realistic," or "I want to learn how to edit photos in Photoshop." It is important to share your needs, skills, and goals you want to learn with your perspective teacher to see if you are a good match.
