About Mark
I am a photography instructor and author of Digital SLR Photography for Dummies eLearning Kit. I have taught hundreds of photographers in San Diego for 12 years, both individuals and companies. I have over 60 five-star reviews on Yelp.
I offer digital photography workshops and lessons for adult digital photographers. San Diego photographers, or photographers visiting San Diego, can schedule their learning around regular open workshops, enjoy a private lesson, or join me on The Photographer's Journey, an individually tailored course of instruction and mentoring. Please check my reviews on Yelp to read what photographers say about my photography classes and guided experiences.
Rather than taking a picture in automatic mode and hoping for the best, I teach deliberate photographers. As a deliberate photographer, compelling images are no longer the result of a happy accident. You will learn to manipulate your medium to create art that satisfies you and belongs to you alone.
I have many years experience as an instructional designer and commercial photographer. Whether you do photography for fun, plan on starting a photography business, or have specific skills you wish to learn, I can help you achieve your goal.
I run regular open workshops, private lessons, and custom courses to satisfy your requirements. Please check my website at (concealed information) or see my reviews on Yelp and Google.
Although some people might think teaching photography is repetitive, it is far from it. I enjoy meeting new people. I love keeping up-to-date with cameras and techniques. Mostly, I really enjoy sharing in the joy when people start to understand light, composition, and technique to create great pictures.

I have worked with young adults, retired people, couples, and businesses. I have run workshops for the Marine Corps MCCS, charities, scientific companies, a wholesale florist, and many individual professional photographers. People from outside the USA regularly contact me and book lessons that they fly in for. I structure lessons according to the needs of the individual. I only teach adults and have no classes available for children.
There is no barrier to entry to becoming a photography teacher. Anyone with a camera can call themselves a photography instructor. Also, just because someone is a good photographer does not make them a good teacher. Check out reviews on Yelp or Google, which are most likely to be genuine, before engaging an instructor.

Mark was super patient and really made sure I understood the techniques he was teaching. I loved the exercises he used to help me practice what we learned and I left the workshop very pleased, more knowledgeable and with a lot more confidence about using my DSLR with specific goals whether it be portraits or actions shots, etc. I would definitely recommend Mark and his workshops to anyone.
