"My name is Richard James Earl, and I am joyful that you are interested in learning more about photography! I have been around cameras my entire life, and for the last decade professionally. Growing up as a traveler always with his camera, and continuing to be one, has taught me much. It is a pleasure to share my experience with you, and to assist with increasing your knowledge in any type of photography.
Whether you have just realized your talent and would like to sharpen your skills for professional work, or want a crash-course of softbox lighting, or if your interests are purely artistic and for hobby; you have come to the right place. There is much to learn in this increasingly growing field.
Photography is all about showing others the way in which you visually experience the world. Learning a few basic, techniques from an experienced professional can turn your photographs from "hey that's not bad", to "Wow who took that photo!?"

Both of my parents were professional educators for over 30 years. It's in my blood, and showing others what I have learned has always been very natural for me. Everyone learns optimally in different ways; for me it is enjoyable to find different ways of explaining until i see all of the person's gears turning and then "click! ohhhh" at the moment when they have grasped the concept of a totally new idea or method.
I grew up as a child with two parents who were professional photographers and teachers; both artists. We had a darkroom and color enlarger in our home, and my "toys" were Hasselblad medium formats and view-cameras. Photography has been my most favorite thing since early childhood, over 30 years ago, and my full-time career for the last 6 years. My home is a photo studio, and there is always a DSLR within reach, wherever I am. Photography is my life.

Establish a line of communication, get to know the student's interests, focus the lesson plan on the student's interests, and above all else, make sure everyone has a great time with a smile on their face!
Students who are interested in learning about photography.
If you're not really interested in the subject, you won't really learn the content.
Know the general area of what you want to learn, and make sure that you are interested in learning. It's totally fine to also not have a very specific idea of what you want to learn.
for example, this statement: "i want to improve my photographs"
This guides a good instructor to, "all right, well let's look at some of your photographs; then i will offer you suggestions, show you basic guidelines to make your photos more appealing, and then we will practice all of that in the field"
My most recent 'event' was a photoshoot in a corporate office. The client wanted photos to show off the new office space and get it rented out. I was able to provide them with all of the desired photographs, which involved working with the employees, and in some shots turning them into 'background models' to enhance the look of the scene. This was not their usual day-to-day work routine, and i made sure that everyone was laughing and smiling the entire time (while not posing). It's really great to make other people simply just laugh and feel joy, that's a big part of why I do this.

Perfect! Richard has gone above and beyond during & after each of my lessons. He is an awesome teacher and there are so many extra things he does that make him stand out. He is extremely knowledgeable and professional. He creates lesson plans, detailed notes after lessons and even set up an online portal where his students can access and review everything. He is always on time and never cuts a lesson short- he will stay longer if you are in the middle of something. Overall he is a 10 and I would recommend any level photographer to take a lesson with him.

Each lesson is $70 and a one-hour minimum duration; sometimes the off-topic conversations lead to new discoveries, and I don't want that taking away from your structured learning time.
