About Aliyah
Hi, I'm Aliyah! I graduated from UC Berkeley with a sociology degree 9 years ago and began working on my teaching credential immediately. I have 5 years of full time elementary school experience, and have worked with students from all grade levels, with various needs and learning styles. I have an english learner certificate and have experience with both special needs, and English learner students.
As a child, I struggled with confidence, which affected my ability to succeed. My goal as a teacher is to make sure no student doubts his or her abilities and strengths. I want to inspire students to create their own goals and accomplish them relentlessly. I value hard work and determination. I also want students to feel empowered and confident that they can succeed, no matter how many challenges come their way.
Everyone has a different learning style. What works for one person may not work for another. As a teacher, I learn as much as I can about the student and how they learn best. Then, i develop a plan using strategies to accomodate.
I also try my best to make learning interactive and fun. This includes songs and chants, body movements to help remember information and math steps, and personal stories and interests to engage the learner. I also want students to feel comfortable with me.
I teach problem solving skills and am comfortable with common core methods to learning. I ask questions and guide students to make their own conclusions, which provides them with lifelong skills they can use in their independent work.
I can't wait to meet you. If we work together, we will see evidence of improvement and an increase in your scores, but more importantly, a better understanding of the content you are learning.
I love building connections and relationships with my students. I feel so happy when I see someone's face light up when they finally understand the math problem, or when they finish an essay and can truly feel proud of their work. I learn as much from my students as they do from me.
