About Shanna

I grew up as a teacher's daughter and an artist's child so mentorship and creativity have both been a part of my life since the beginning.

I earned my BFA from the Savannah Collefe of Art and Design in 2013 and started freelancing as the business Bristol and Breve, but it wasn't until 2015 when I really discovered my passion for watercolor florals and textile design. Now my business and life both focus on the joy of florals and the magic that watercolor can create. Join me in learning to paint with this amazing media and fill your heart and home up with joyful flowers.

I feel like I was almost born into teaching. With a teacher and child care provider as a parents I wound up tutoring and mentoring from a very young age in all sorts of topics. I spent the last two years of high school and a gap year before college teaching at Outdoor School. I worked as a note taker and tutor in college and also as a nanny, valued especially for the creative lessons I brought to the children I watched. Since starting my business as an artist in 2013 I have offered free public watercolor lessons online via Instagram and began transitioning to formal in person workshops in 2019. Due to Covid-19 restrictions most of the in person teaching opportunities had to be cancelled, so I have spent the last year developing a web based platform for online workshops. You can find more details and check out my current menu of virtual workshops at shannaandersonzongo.podia.com

About the lesson

I have worked with all ages from elementary students through retired adults. The workshops I currently focus on are aimed at adults or teens who have a higher level of patience for detail, but I am always happy to discuss child friendly lessons upon request.

I am a patient, friendly teacher who prides myself on creating a safe, joyful learning environment for beginning students. I am also happy to offer more advanced technique for those who already have some skills under their belt.

Find a teacher whose style you enjoy because you will inevitably absorb pieces of that as you learn.

Look for someone you feel comfortable around, someone you enjoy having a conversation with. Painting, especially watercolor, should be a slow down activity to fill your soul up with joy. Spending time with a mentor should be a pleasant and uplifting experience.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your current skill level?

What are your goals for lessons? (E.g. do you want to become a highly skilled professional painter, do you want to learn to paint homemade greeting cards for personal gifts, do you want an activity to practice for self care and purely for enjoyment?)

Are you looking for a a short term arrangement or a long term arrangement?

How do you learn best?

What will make you feel supported as a student?
