About Louise

I teach people who believe they have no artistic talent and draw it out of them. In a paint 'n sip or a knitting lesson I try to encourage organic artistic talent.

My mother was an art teacher and I started in art school before becoming a mother. I have interest in every nook & cranny of what "ART" is. It could be art from found objects or oil painting and I see it all as art.

I truly believe that we don't develop both sides of the brain in our school system so art classes is a way of using both sides of the brain. We need to develop the right side of the brain just as much as we develop the left side to have young people that are well rounded people.

I took a lot of cues from my mother. She was an art teacher and I do feel like a natural teacher. My students victories are my victories and I take great joy in them overcoming challenges or perceptions of their own ability.

I started out being raised by an Art teacher so everyday was a lesson in art and about how art is found in all parts of your life. I went on to start college being an art major. I became a mother and that interupped college but I have been a teacher of children and adults in part district classes, church functions, civic organizations and I opened my own studio in 2014.

About the lesson

I like to find out where they are in their artistic journey and then work with them from where they are. I try to encourage freedom and let them realize that not every piece of art is a homerun but that doesn't mean its not a masterpiece of their own. Van gogh has many 100's of pictures but they are not all Starry Night!

I have worked with people from toddlers to seniors. I love working with them all. Every age/gender/ethnicity/sexual orientation is welcome in my studio. When you are there my studio is your studio and usually if you are wanting something for your piece of work and you don't have it I will dig into my back of tricks to see if I have something.

Find a person that you connect with. You can talk on the phone or text and you will see if you have a connection or not.

I had a family painting class where everyone got to pick out an animal that they liked. I cut stencils for each painter and the painter painted the background then used their stencil to put the animal in the picture. I had people from toddler - grandparents in that class and everyones painting turned out beautiful!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Know what you want your outcome to be. Ask your teacher if they think it is a doable outcome and accept honest feedback. Obviously, if you have never knitted before and you want to knit a sweater in a month, don't expect a teacher to say, "yes, we can do that" That is not doable. But you can do a scarf in that timeframe, and be proud of it.

It all depends on the class and if it is a private and/or group class. I teach so many different classes. Soapmaking, knitting, crochet, painting, quilting, sewing so it is really dependant on the class.
