About Jesse

I have been drawing as long as I can remember, and it makes up most of my earliest memories. Art is something I've always been passionate about, and I hope I can inspire others with that same passion!

ANYONE can make art. I want to help people understand that.

Specialties:

I absolutely love art, and seeing others learning to enjoy it is the absolute best feeling in the world. No matter your medium or skill level, it's the enjoyment of creating that is most important.

I started out tutoring my youner siblings, and then some of my classmates. Over the years I have had friends approach me, asking to teach them or their siblings how to draw. I fell in love with all my art teachers in school, and want to be the kind of person that inspires others to create.

I have an Associate's in psychology, and am currently in school for early childhood education. I have extensive experience in volunteering with children, and have student-taught in an art classroom.

About the lesson

Introductions - get to know each other, your past art experience, and what you want to get out of lessons

First Project - a simple, relaxed exercise to help get to know your current skill level

Building a Lesson Plan - work with the student to build a lesson plan tailored to them and their personal art goals

Ages 5-20, including children on the autism spectrum.

Look for someone that makes you smile, someone that makes you say "yeah, they make this sound really fun".

Student teaching in an art classroom at a Title I school, the children had had a string of art teachers that made them hate art. Their current teacher has been attempting to fix that all year, but it's still difficult. Many of the students just don't want to do the work, or need absolutely clear instructions - step by step lines on how to draw the flower. My favorite moments are when the kids really get it; you can draw the flower however you want, YOU'RE in charge. The look on their faces is priceless.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How often do you want to work on art? Be reasonable.

Are you the type of person that reads all of the instructions first, or do you like to just wing it?

Do you want to create something realistic? Abstract? Both?

Think of some of the things you want to accomplish with art. It can be anything, from "I want to be able to draw a person", to "I want to be a professional artist", or anything in between!
