About Diane

I am the most broadly experienced vocal coach in the area. I coach singers in multiple genres such as Classical (French, German Italian and English), Jazz, Art Song, Cabaret and Pop. As a singer who has performed worldwide myself, I know what it takes!

Singer/Stage Director Diane McNaron has appeared in cabaret, jazz, opera, recital, and oratorio throughout the US, Europe and Australia. She has released two CDs, Music in Flight - endorsed by Nobel Peace Prize winner Doctors Without Borders (MSF); and the Argentine chamber music album, Rosas de Pulpa, Rosas de Cal, recently nominated as Classical Album of the Year by the American indie and New Music Consortium, Just Plain Folks. As a Stage Director, Diane produces two cabaret troupes and has staged over fifty other productions.

McNaron has an M. M. from Florida State University, a Performer's Certificate from the American Institute of Musical Studies, Graz, Austria, and has done post graduate work at the Indiana University School of Music. McNaron is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and has received production grants from the Alabama Council on the Arts and the Lowder Foundation. Her professional voice students perform internationally and have been recipients of many awards. Audition preparation is a specialty. Additionally, she is committed to introducing entry-level singers to the exciting world of vocal music in multiple genres.

The success of my students is thrilling. Some students are auditioning and getting roles and parts onstage, some apply for and get scholarships; for some the goal is to be a better community singer or develop a technique they can rely on. Some singers reward themselves for starting a career in another field or having a family and NOW have the time to do something just for themselves! It ́s all good!

I have a Master of Music degree from the Florida State University School of Music, with a minor in Theatre. FSU is a top-ten ranking university. Two additional years of post graduate study were done at Indiana University, the US´s largest music school. I have years of private study with internationally known singers such as Eleanor Steber, NYC and Gianna D´Angelo, Indiana University and study abroad in Germany, Italy and Austria.

About the lesson

We talk about what interests the singer musically ... what genre or type of music they are most drawn to. We then discuss how the singer warms up the voice - whether through scales and exercises or through singing a song. If we need to learn an exercise, we do! We do some work on breathing if the singer needs it, and many do. If the singer is extremely experienced, we go right into their repertoire. If they're just getting started, we find out where their voice type and musical interests coincide and look at/listen to music that will inspire them.
