About Deborah
I began tutoring when I was a high school sophomore to my fellow classmates regularly at Lincoln High School, and I have been doing it now ever since to elementary and middle school students. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan studying Biomedical Engineering, and I am conducting research in the School of Public Health on racial socialization. In summer of 2020, I had the pleasure to work alongside my research lab and write a short piece for the National Alliance on Mental Illness about current events and to further explain the research that we conduct. On campus I serve as the Community Relations Chair for the African Students Association, I am a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, and I am an Alumni Association LEAD Scholar.
I enjoy the moments students have when they are grasping the material, because it goes to build their confidence, and with confidence they are able to make significant strides.
I graduated from Lincoln High School in 2019.
I am a sophomore at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
I am a mentor for the Village Project at Ypsilanti Schools, which is a mentorship program for children affected by incarceration.

I don't immediately dive into content/material, I first get to know them and gauge their interests, so I know what kind of a learner I will be working with. I also have them come up with guidelines with me so that the dynamic between the student and I is more collaborative.
