About Caroline

I am a recent Georgetown University grad, where I matriculated with Honors in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. While I was at Georgetown, I was a Division-I rower and 2x Captain. I know what it takes to excel academically while also managing various time commitments in a distracting environment. I have developed a strong system for effective and efficient skills needed to excel academically.

I enjoy expanding students' comfortability and confidence within certain subject areas that may need attention, or more generally, expanding their overall academic and study skills. My priority is to prepare students to be independently driven and confident in their skills and work.

I began my work teaching kids while at Georgetown as an undergrad. As an undergrad, I was a member of Project Shine, a club that worked in partnership with Georgetown University MedStar Hospital. As a member of this club, I assisted in facilitating educational but lighthearted visits to children in the Pediatric Transplant Unit, and facilated in-person socioemotional-based services and activities. This past summer, I worked as a child wellness intern under the Yale New Haven Health System in Connecticut.

I graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Cognitive Neuroscience. I am currently working in a research lab in the Neuroscience Department at the Georgetown University Medical Center, and am seeking to pursue a PhD in Psychology or Cognitive Neuroscience in the next few years. My area of expertise and experience is primarily in the social sciences.

About the lesson

I have worked with students between elementary and middle school, who may require extra assistance with understanding instructions or provided materials. I have worked with child refugees who have had little exposure to the American school system, and come in needing extra support to excel in the classroom.

A recent event I am especially fond of was this past week when I was teaching mindfulness exercises to a child refugee living in the United States, and we were learning how to take deep breathes and calm down in situations when you might be feeling anxious or frustrated. After a few seconds of silence, while keeping his eyes closed, he smiled and shouted "I can feel my heart beeping! I can hear it beeping!"
