About Cathe
I hold a BA in elementary education from The George Washington University. I also hold an MS in elementary education (technology) from The Herbert Lehman College in NYC. Additionally, I was privileged to take at least one additional class each semester. Each additional class pertained to a current or new idea either being taught or a new methodology for being as up-to-date as possible to maintain my high standard of teaching.

First we discuss what the parent and the student want to accomplish, what the expectations will be for all involved, including the teacher. All involved need to be totally aware of what the expections are. Then the parent, student and teacher discuss just what each will contribute to accomplish these expectations. We decide what materials, books, notebooks, etc will be necessary. In some cases, it will be productive for the tutor/teacher to contact the classroom teacher. Of course, this will only be done with the permission of the parent. In all cases, a positive relationship must develop with the teacher and the student. In my opinion, the teacher/tutor must determine where the child is in his/her learning process and just how best the child learns ie. Is the student a visual learner, kinesthetic learner, etc?
