I was self-taught for highschool. I excelled at every subject except math. I got a tutor. This tutor charged very little despite the fact that he could have charged me $100 or more per session. My family had no money, my mom was a single parent but this man worked with her to make sure that I would have a future. Because of him, I didn't just learn math, I grew to LOVE math and excelled. Also because of him, I was able to begin college at 16 and become a tutor myself. I am a tutor because I love helping students reach their potential. I am a tutor because I love passing on my love of math to others. Finally, I am a tutor because I want to be able to provide others with the same opportunity I was given by an amazing tutor.

About the lesson

For Minors:

First I meet with the student's parent without the student to discuss the parent's views of the student's needs, weaknesses, grades, goals, and any diagnosed or suspected learning disabilities.

Second I have a quick meeting with the student to get to know them. Knowing what they enjoy helps me create a curruculum plan that is interesting and fun for the student. It's also helpful to get the student's perspective on their needs and weaknesses. This way I can gauge whether confidence plays a part in their difficulties.

Next I have a tutoring session with the student at a place that is familiar and comfortable for them. During this session, we do a number of diagnostic tests to assess their level of ability and how any disabilities might be affecting their ability to learn.

Next I meet with the student's teachers to get an understanding of the curriculum being used in the classroom. This meeting also serves as an opportunity to get the teacher's views on the student's ability, difficulties, and problems in the classroom.

Lastly, I create a curriculum plan tailored to the student's needs. This curriculum plan is sent to the parents and teachers so that we can all be on the same page and work together to help the student reach their goals. This curriculum is reassessed and revised every eight weeks to make sure that we are moving at a pace that the student recquires, that we eliminate methods that don't work for the student, and that we add new methods that work better.

For Adult Students

First, I meet with the student to fill out paperwork, discuss their needs, difficulties, and goals.

Next, I review material that they've already completed on the subject.

Then, I have a session with the student to do diagnostic exams.

Next, I create a curriculum with the student that helps them reach their goals. This curriculum is reassessed and revised every eight weeks.
