About Allyson

I started tutoring in college, then became a teacher's assistant. I did briefly teach at a High School. I believe that tutoring is very benefecial and can help a student overcome roadblocks. I enjoy seeing how to make their skills and confidence build.

I majored in Physics and engineering. I also worked a few years as a Math and Physics teacher at a High School in Florida.

About the lesson

The process I use for working with a new student would be to listen to what problems or topics they would like to go over and then determine what teaching strategy is gest and through repetition get the student experience mastery.

For some students, it may be a matter of getting organized and then getting practice working on solving many problems. For other students it may be that they just missed some specific knowledge and then after they are back on a good course.

There are textbooks, online practice questions like Khan Academy, SAT and PSAT as well as school work to use as part of the tutoring session. I believe you can always learn with most tutors. However, if you are struggling with liking the subject matter, then a teacher that knows how to build and encourage will be important.

One success story was spending a week where we prepared for the Math PSAT going over the topics and practice tests. The results came back and scored very well despite school grades.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As a tutor, I would ask the student what is it that they want to accomplish by working on their math. It is good to set a goal like passing a class or a test and then we can break it down into smaller steps from there.
