About Henry

What I enjoy most about working with students to prepare for standardized tests is helping them demistify the intimidating process of understanding the questions and taking the test, and helping student realize that they already understand so much more than they thought!

While in high school, I took a course called ACT Prep which started me on my journey of improving standardized test scores. I was largely auto-didactic, working by myself to improve my own scores. After reaching my personal goals, I have worked with my younger brother and sisters to help them to improve their scores.

I have a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, which involved studying several years of college-level math.

While in high school, I took the ACT 8 times, the PSAT once, and the SAT once as part of my college admission process. Especially over the several times I took the ACT, I tried many different strategies for improving my test scores, and finally achieved my goal on the eighth time.

About the lesson

I spend the first session getting to know the student, taking an assessment of their skill levels in each of the standardized test subjects. I work through a few test problems in each of the subjects with them and observe their thought process and plan of attack. Then I focus on the areas in which they have the most room for improvement and begin working with them there.

I have spent the most time working with my younger two sisters and brother to help them to improve their test scores. I have also worked with some of my classmates while in high school, as well as some friends of my family.

First of all, think about your personal goals. What specific score on the SAT or ACT would you like to attain? Think about what you could see yourself doing after high school. What excites you? What motivates you? In which subjects are you very strong? In what areas do you have room for lots of growth?

When looking to hire a teacher, make sure to hire someone who will put in the time and effort to get to know you, take into account your strenghts and weaknesses, and work with you to achieve your personal goals.

I recently graduated from college and moved to Connecticut to start work at ASML! I am not from this part of the country, so I am enjoying the experience of living in an urban area near the coast and meeting lots of new people.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before talking to teachers about their needs, students should think through whether they believe they have the ability to set high goals and achieve them, as well as make an assessment of their own strengths and weaknesses. It's helpful to be honest about them, whether they're very strong or very weak or somewhere in the middle in a particular area.
