About Ashley

I have a PhD in mathematics. I have been teaching mathematics for ~10 years at four different colleges and I love seeing when students get it!

My method is very Socratic. I don't judge you when you don't know the answer to a question, we work through the problem together until you have a full understanding of what's going on.

Have you ever felt like you didn't understand something but you didn't even know where to begin asking for help? Students feel empowered after working with me because I teach them how to ask the right questions when they don't understand, and I give them the math vocabulary needed to communicate their mathematical ideas effectively!

I got started teaching when I was a grad student at the University of Michigan. Before that, I had experience one summer teaching the quantitative reasoning portion of a GRE prep course.

I have a PhD in mathematics and ~10 years of experience teaching at four different colleges.

About the lesson

I usually like to tackle the problem at hand first, whether it's a test or assignment. When there's more time I like to review concepts. I focus heavily on doing practice problems, since I believe the best way to learn math is by doing!

I have mainly worked with college students at all levels of math. I can also tutor younger students, especially high school students doing college prep.

Look for someone who works for YOU. You don't want someone who spends most of their time lecturing. You want to be able to participate fully in the discussion. Your teacher/tutor should be able to give you time to think for yourself about the problem.
