About Shamith

I have two years of tutoring experience in math, physics, computer science, and biology. As an upcoming senior with straight A's and a 1550 SAT, I can help your student navigate their way through high school using concepts that are fresh in my mind.

I love to see students grasping difficult concepts and improving themselves. My goal with any student is to bring their skill level up to my own so that they can move on to be better students.

My Honors Precalculus teacher recognized my capability in math and asked me to start tutoring with the National Honor Society (NHS). I helped students of different math classes with their homework on breaks, and I loved it. I decided to keep going, so I joined my junior year as well, and also joined the Evergreen Initiative's program.

I excelled in all of my high school courses and have good standardized test scores. I have been a math tutor with NHS at my school for two years. For the past three months, I have done online one-on-one tutoring.

About the lesson

I first try to get to know what the student usually struggles with in their subject. Most students tend to fall behind due to misunderstandings of fundamental concepts. Then, I try to get the student to ask as many questions as they can and when answering, I try to engage with the student as much as possible.

I have worked with students from 8th to 12th grade. I helped most of them with math and some with physics and biology. I have worked with students of all academic standards and have helped everyone to the best of my ability.

Look for teachers with experience, not credentials. Someone with a college degree isn't going to help you in your high school level course as much as a high schooler would. I would also look for someone with genuine interest in the topics, so you don't get bored talking to them.

An 8th grader recently asked me to explain Einstein's relativity to him. I was really excited and proceeded to explain the mind-blowing concept. Ten minutes passed by and by the end, I could see how intrigued the student was. I will never forget how I inspired someone to be so interested in physics and hope to do the same to all my students.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try to ask specific questions, rather than saying, "I don't get [insert complex concept here]." A teacher will often do a better job of helping you understand something if they know what you are struggling with specifically.
