About Anna

I am a certifited secondary math teacher. I started tutoring in 2009, when I was only a sophomore in high school. I tutored throughout college, and on and off since I started my teaching career. I teach students who come into math class years behind in the classroom, and that helps me understand where most students have holes and gaps in their knowledge of the math curriculum.

I've always wanted to be a teacher. My mom has pictures of me teaching made up lessons to stuffed animals in our living room. It was just a matter of what I wanted to teach eventaully. I started off thinking about wanting to be a preschool teacher - but then decided little kids were more fun when there were less than 5 of them at one time! When I was in high school and started tutoring math students, I discovered how awesome math was and how much I liked seeing the "lightbulb moment" with the students I was working with! This led me to pursue a teaching career in high school math!

I am a high school math teacher and hold a Michigan certificate to teach 6-12 mathematics.

About the lesson

I like to meet with a students and talk to them about how they feel about math, what their classroom is like, and get to know them a little bit. Then, we dive right into math. Seeing students doing math problems allows me to understand what level they are at and what they may need more assistance with.

I have worked with all types of students. I've worked with middle school, high school, and college aged students. I've worked with students who wanted to get ahead, and students who need to do a bit of catching up. My current teaching job is in an alternative high school, so on a day to day basis, I am mostly working with students who are a grade or more behind in math and bringing them up to grade level while teaching them grade-appropriate material.

Details

I charge $30/hour to meet one on one with students. If I have to travel, it is $35/hour. If I meet with a student two times per week, then it is $50/week (a ten dollar discount for multiple days).
