About Adam

Rather than a strict system, I prefer to mold a unique tutoring approach for every student. Every student has needs that are unique to them and I am able to play to a student's strengths while also improving the aforementioned student's weaknesses in mathematics.

I have always had a passion for math. I truly love math for its ability to explain the world. Nearly everything you look at can be described with some sort of mathematical context. I feel as though math is a key to undertsanding our universe and improving the human experience.

Since elementary school, I have enjoyed math and found it to be greatly misunderstood. Many people are taught math incorrectly and are therefore quick to dismiss it as either too difficult or unnecessary. I would attribute my love of math to past teachers I have had, as they taught me that math has much more to offer than most people think. I took advanced math classes all through high school, and am now continuing that advanced track in college.

In terms of tutoring, I love being able to pass on this love of math to other people. It is wonderful to be able to show others the beauty of math.

My mother is a math teacher, and one of the catalysts for my love. I used to spend a lot of my time in her classroom, staring in awe at the trig functions on the board, which seemed to my eight year old self to be some complex riddle for much later in life. When I finally got to high school, I was often regarded as the math guru and began helping other students.

I have always succeeded in advanced math classes. I took AP Calculus as a junior and received a 4 on the AP test. I then took both AP Statistics and Calc 3/Differential Equations as a senior, scoring a 5 on the AP statistics class. Although there is no Calc 3/Differential Equations advanced placement course, I still received an A for both semesters of the course. I am continuing this advanced math track in college, taking additional math classes for fun.

About the lesson

To first analyze the student's processes and skill level, I begin by giving the student some problems to attempt on their own. Once they have completed these problems and I am able to determine specific issues they are having and evalute from there.

In the past, I have typically worked with other high school students, as those were the only people that sought out help from me.

In order to truly excel in math, you need to understand it in a way that makes sense to you. Sometimes certain concepts click for some people in a way that is different from others. I would recommend that any students looking to hire a tutor should be comfortable with their tutor. When learning anything, not even just math, it is much easier for concepts to click if you feel comfortable and feel as though you have a connection with the person teaching you.

This past summer I was able to packback through Europe with three other friends. After saving through all of senior year, the four of us embarked on a 6 week backpacking trip that circled counterclockwise through Europe, starting in Nice, France and ending in London, UK. Although I have been to Europe in the past, traveling with friends for 6 weeks was a completely new experience and one of my favorite memories.
