About Jacob
Hi! I'm Jacob, a rising pre-med senior at Princeton University. As an engineer-turned-philosophy major on a pre-med track, I have experience in a wide array of subjects, and have tutored both middle and high schoolers in math, physics, chemistry, SATs, and ACTs.
I am very upbeat and optimistic and I'm deeply passionate about all the subjects I tutor. And since I'm close in age to the students I tutor, I connect with them quite easily. I have seen that this enthusiasm can be infectious, and that this alone can translate into amazing results for some students. While I pride myself on my ability to be patient and to explain concepts at the right pace and with pertinent examples, I think there is something else that truly sets me apart from other tutors. That is, I care primarily about truly deep and fundamental understanding of the subject matter. This strategy may not be what every student wants, but I firmly believe that a fundmental understanding of the basics is the key to achieving full mastery of any topic.
I absolutely love teaching. And I especially love watching as students slowly come to gain a deeper and deeper understanding of the fundamentals of the material. I find that since I'm pretty close in age to the students I tutor, I am better able to be aware of the kinds of pressures and difficulties they face when learning difficult new material.
To me, any subject at a middle or high school level is fascinating. After, all of our other knowledge is based on this foundation. There is nothing more exciting than slowly, but surely, working with a student until they come to truly and deeply understand a concept and solve problems on their own. Plus, it is particularly meaningful for me to know that the material I teach will help propel my students to excel on their exams and on more difficult material in the future.
