For working with a new student I like to get a feel for both of our schedules and make sure we come to a consensus about the times that we will be meeting and make sure they're not only comfortable but ready to learn and get started.
I've worked with my fellow high school and college peers. I've usually been the type of person who would help those around me and have everyone reaching a high status of education even when they were struggling.
When hiring a teacher or tutor for math, they should be patient and consistent. No math teacher, or any teacher for that matter should want to give up on their student. Teachers should make it clear from the very beginning that they're devoted, and committed to making their students great.
