I usually try to get an idea about the student's current understanding regarding a particular topic. And analyze his/her grasping capability, this gives a clear idea of how I can plan to help them understand it.
I suggest hiring a teacher not only an expert in the subject but someone who can convey it at the same level as the student.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Should think about what they really need, is it about asking doubts or a complete explanation of the topic. And try to understand the topic first from your view which gives a better insight for the teacher.
