About Manzil

A Data Science graduate student with three years of experience as a consultant in the startups/VCs ecosystem seeking to transition into academia. With proven experience in teaching foundational STEM topics and a strong background in effectively tutoring high school and college freshmen.

I am a recent college graduate and current intern in a San Francisco based startup with a broad range of teaching experiences including but not limited to private tutoring to foreign expats in Nepal, assisting professor in grading and teaching calculus during college. I have been tutoring A-levels (Cambridge Highschool Course) mathematics and physics since I graduated out of high school in 2014. Moreover, I am very comfortable using platforms like Cisco WebEx, Zoom, etc. to provide best value to your company.

About the lesson

Very early into my career, I had realised that making students practice as many questions as possible is the key, however, it took me time to realise that it can also be counterproductive. I noticed that more often than not kids who take extra classes or private tutoring are usually the ones who are motivated to learn, but at the same time they are also struggling (hence the extra classes to begin with.) This struggle mostly stems out of the fact that they were not clear about the concepts that precede the class they are taking. So, I have devised a structure where I start by giving basic assignments to asses if the students need to fix any of the fundamentals for the topic. If all the students are well-versed in the prerequisite topics, then I proceed to teach them the concepts. It is then followed by rigorous assignments to prepare them for the tests.
