About Oscar
My service includes helping students and parents with their educational goals and needs. As a former teacher, I also provide guidance on necessary steps or actions to achieve those goals. My service aims to help students be successful in their school class, but also instill students the confidence to do higher levels of math.
I enjoy helping students understand the subject material using a variety of strategies and modes. I enjoy getting to try different tools and techniques that students might not see in class to help illuminate concepts and ideas.
My parents didn't have formal education in their country and sometimes I had to double check their work or show them some of the methods I was learning in school to help them do some of their finances.
I was a high school math teacher for five years and I have a masters in Secondary Mathematics. I taught integrated high school math and Precalculus. I have some knowledge of Calculus, Statistics( I was a public policy major at Stanford, which meant some quantitative analysis)

II always start with introductions to make them feel at ease. Then we identify what the student needs and come up with a plan for the session(s). I try to get to know students interests in between the session to be able to use some of that to guide how I can best support the student.
As a teacher I have worked with all types of students. A lot of students with math anxiety for sure and student from a variety of ethnic and socieconomic classes.
Find someone you connect with and feel comfortable with. Depending on your goals you should feel they are supporting you with them.
I lived in the Bay Area for the last five years and I got to see the San Jose Earthquakes(soccer team) beat LAFC. Not sure who I am going to root for now that I live in LA.
