About Douglas
I'm currently a full-time student at Cal State University, Fullerton studying towards a Foundational Level Mathematics Credential. In the past, I've tutored Algebra I with regular education and special education students and have taken multiple courses in elementary mathematics education. As part of my studies thus far, I have also spent time in elementary classrooms observing and teaching math lessons. I am able to tutor mathematics at any level from basic arithmetic through Algebra I.
I love seeing my students overcome the barriers prohibiting them from understanding the desired material. The moment when the lightbulb goes on is my favorite moment and it's always great fun to see the quick progress which generally ensues!
I started teaching tennis in high school and began tutoring math when some of my students needed help with Algebra. Teaching has been a passion ever since.

I usually start by watching the student work through a couple of the problems from their homework or a study guide to see how they approach the math problems that they are attempting to solve. As I see how the student solves the problems, it generally becomes clear very quickly where they tend to be making their errors, either in the way they mentally approach the problems, in the way they organize their work, or some combination of both.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would recommend students have a clear goal in mind. Whether that be a grade that they want to achieve on an exam or in a class/subject or a specific mistake that they want to stop making, it is very important to strive towards a goal in order to obtain desired results.
