About Donavin
I've tutored peers throughout high school and college in a variety of subjects, though mainly with a focus on math, chemistry, and physics.
In addition to being a resident assistant in college, I conducted undergraduate research and now work as an engineer at Merck.
I enjoy explaining concepts to people in a way that reflects their interests and shows how the topic directly impacts or relates to them.
Beyond explanations, I look forward to introducing people to resources and practices that can help them to become independent and efficient in their learning, enabling them to find more time for their own interests.
I began by teaching many of my peers in and out of classes, then started to formally tutor after graduating college to help pay back student loans.
I graduated from Penn State with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and have worked as an engineer since. I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students in math and physics.

I like to get information ahead of time on the specifc material the student is looking for help with in order to prepare for effective/efficient sessions. I discuss where they are struggling or looking to improve and then like to work through examples to demonstrate concepts.
I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students in math and physics.
I think the internet is a great resource for students looking to learn and encourage them to first try online resources such as khan academy, quizlet, and wolfram alpha. If the student would like tutoring after consulting online resources, find a tutor that teaches in a way that engages them and helps them to learn, not just give answers.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should take time to understand how they learn best and identify concepts they would like explained further or to practice with guidance. If students can identify specifically what they are looking to review I am happy to prepare ahead of time to give them the best value in examples and explanations.
