About Travis
I teach Geometry and Algebra 2 at Desert Oasis High School in the Southwest area of Las Vegas. I tutor occasionally on the side as time allows.
There's nothing like seeing something "click" in one of my student's heads. That moment when they final grasp a concept or understand how to do something they've been struggling with is magic.
As part of a three-year trip abroad, I went to Japan to teach English for a year. That experience was completely different than my current position, but it planted the idea of teaching upon my return.
I currently work as a math teacher at Desert Oasis High School.

I try to get an understanding of who the student is and what they are struggling with. I tutor in my classroom twice a week after school and have found every student is different. The more I can understand the student's struggles, the better I can help them succeed.
I have worked with a wide variety of students at all levels.
Find someone you will enjoy working with that helps explain things in a way that you understand it. Everyone is different and it is worth it to find someone that addresses your needs.
The most recent event I did was hike down to Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon. The 12-mile hike in was worth every ache and blister. Other events I ry and attend regularly are South by Southwest and the Emmy awards. I am also a huge fan of live music events and will try and go to one or two music festivals a year.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about your own thinking (this is called Metacognition). If you can think about why you may not know something or the best way that teacher can help you, you will save a lot of time and effort. Do your best to explain what is confusing to you about a topic.
