About Nancy

I am a retired ESE teacher with 20 years in teaching at both public and private institutions. My specialty is elementary math, reading, language arts. I use a multsensory approach to learning, using students strengths to help remediate their weaknesses. Area specialties include students with specific learning disabilities inclusive of L.D., ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, And students on the Autism Spectrum.

Tutoring allows me to really individualize instruction for students and design lessons specifically to each student's needs. For students needing phonics, reading, and/or spelling instruction; I often refer to the sequential order of skills used in Wilson's Fundations Program.

My teaching career started after I received a B.S in Education from Mo. State University with a certification in Special Education K-12.

I have 20 years experience in working as a classroom teacher in both the public and private sector. Recently, I have retired from Morning Star School, a special education school with the Diocese of Saint Augustine, after teaching elementary students for 13 years. Previous work as a teacher included 5 years at Mo. School for the Blind, and 2 years as a classroom/resource teacher at a Jr./Sr. High School.

About the lesson

When working with new students getting a personal and educational background is important. I like to know what their personal and school interests are as well as their educational strengths and weaknesses. It is important to find out what exactly parents would like to achieve by my help. Finally I would give an informal assessment on the subjects to be focused on during the sessions.

My 20 years as an ESE teacher has given me the opportunity to work with a broad range of students with different strengths and weaknesses. I have worked with those with specific learning disabilities, hyperactivity, attention deficits, dyslexia, and those on the autism spectrum. Homework can be a challenge for students and parents alike. I can help with getting that done!
