I follow the process described below when working with a student:
Pre-Meeting
1. Identify content area needing assistance in. This gives me an opportunity to refresh my knowledge of that area and conduct research on how best to teach it.
2. Set meeting time/virtual visit details.
Meeting
1. Identify what specific problems the student is having with the content.
2. Ask the student to solve the problem, describe their current baseline knowledge on the topic.
3. Run through a practice problem.
4. Create a process map to solving problem directly expressing theories guiding the process.
5. Have student solve problem independently.
Post-Session
1. Ask student to practice their skills from the session.
2. Report back on progress during next meeting or feedback survey.
