About Josue
Hi my name is Josue Tamarez, and I am a Dallas ISD math teacher. I have been teaching for 8 years with a proven record of success. This year, I was named Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year for my work in the classroom. It was a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues and the school district. I attended Baruch College in New York City and graduated with a degree in Finance and Investments and a minor in Mathematics. After working as a tutor in low income communities in New York City, I found a new passion for education. Education is personal to me. My dad was born in a very poor family in Dominican Republic. Because of his family’s lack of financial resources, my dad had to quit school and started working at an early age. He only made it to the 8th grade. My mom finished high school, but never went to college. Because of their own struggles, my mom and dad made clear to me that not going to college was not an option. My dad used to tell me “the only inheritance you are getting from me is the opportunity to go to college and get a great education.” It is because of my parents unwavering support that I have gotten this far in life. This is the same influence I want to have in my students. This is why I teach.
The most rewarding part about my job is the ability that you have to transform lives and change minsets. As a math teacher, I am well aware of the misconceptions surrounding mathematics. "Math is not for everyone" society tell us. The truth is that math IS for everyone. Every child is capable of learning math. It takes some motivation and hard work, but it is doable. So, that's what I enjoy the most about this work: teachers and tutors have the ability to influence the way a child sees math and can instill some confidence in them. That's the beauty of being an educator.
