About Cameron

My name is Cameron Eagles. I'm 28 years old, and I've lived in Durham, NC for 4 years. I am a 2018 graduate of Duke's M.A. Economics program, and I currently work downtown full-time at Self-Help Credit Union, where I work as a Project Manager on issues related to social justice and economic development.

My formal experience in teaching mathematics and Calculus is from the 3 years I spent teaching high school math as a Granville County (NC) Public Schools teacher, in coursework ranging from 9th grade Alegebra through AP Calculus AB. As of beginning my business here, I still hold my official educators license. I have many years experience relating to students and helping them understand their coursework at their level, and I believe my age and attitude allows me to connect with students in way that helps them.

I have tutored 3 students formally in Calculus, and I am growing and formalizing my business beginning fall 2019. Send me a note, and I'll be happy to connect with you or discuss my credentials and references.

I enjoy having a positive impact on communities, especially communities that haven't had it easy but are working to make things better for their members.

After earning my bachelor's degree in 2013, I began teaching via Teach for America. I taught in Oxford, NC for 3 years before returning to earn my MA in Economics.

I was a public school teacher in high school math for 3 years, including being an AP Calculus teacher. As of beginning my tutoring work formally, I still hold my official educators license in NC. I am also a graduate (MA) of Economics from Duke University, where I have taken courses in Calculus, Differential Equations, Econometrics, and others. Calculus is intuitive to me now, and I have a strong mathematics background generally.

As a past teacher, I also have a great deal of practice in working with youth, including existing and past tutoring positions.

About the lesson

My typical process is to first understand a student's strengths and weaknesses in their coursework (deficit in concepts, or ability to execute technical math simplification, etc.) and then understand their goals for the course. I like to listen before prescribing a student to a particular path.

That said, I have a variety of tresources that I used as a public school teacher in Calculus that I offer to students to get them on track in a way that I think has worked well.

Students ranging from 6-12th grades, including some adult students.

I would advise students to speak to other students and their teacher about how they've dealt with struggles in math. If multiple students have the same issue, it's good to work together to master the problem -- even if that means tutoring together!

I am incredibly fond of a trip I took to Istanbul recently. I love Turkish culture, and I hope to return soon!

My typical pricing is $40 per hour, and I recommend that students work for at least 90-min sessions. I am also open to group rates for multiple students, and offer fairly steep per student discounts for those situations.
