About Leslie

Hi, I'm Leslie and I'm a tutor specializing in math and literature. I'm currently attending college at CIA (Cleveland Institute of Art), and I graduated high school with straight As in all my academic subjects. I have previous tutoring experience from peer tutoring offered at my school's library and tutoring for children of family friends. Having a student learn a new skill is as rewarding to me as it is to them, and I hope I can spread my passion for learning with all of my students!

In school I was more proficient in literature than my peers, so they constantly asked me for help. Eventually I discovered the school's tutoring program and joined. From there I began helping my peers primarily with literature.

I graduated high school with straight 'A's in math and literature. I spent part of my free time tutoring with my school's library program to help my peers. I was a teaching assistant for my freshman literature teacher who also taught AP language and composition, so I have experience with grading, editing, and criteria in that area. I completed math up to AP calculus AB which I received a 5 for the exam.

Sometimes when I looked after my family's friend's children I'd help them with their math homework.

About the lesson

If the student wants to generally improve their skills in one area, I'd give them an assessment test to see their level and then choose material based on that to work with.

For extra help within a subject, I'll ask which problems the student struggles with then work with them on similar problems to understand why it's difficult for the student then tackle the issue.

I've worked with high schoolers on essay writing and literature and also grade schooled in literature and math.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have an idea of what they want help for and possibly provide material they need help with for the first session. Set goals for themselves to stay motivated; remember that learning can be a slow process, but as long as they're practicing, they'll improve their skills.
