About Areesha

I have a lot of experience in helping students, despite my young age. Many people seem to reject me due to my age, but those that have given me a chance can confirm that I am capable of even helping other students of my age. Being young actually seems to provide me with an advantage; I can understand the feelings of the students better, and get along with them more too due to the smaller gap in age. Students seem to feel more comfortable in sharing their problems with me too, since I'm somebody they can relate to more than their teachers.

I just love to help others. Being able to help a student understand a concept he/she was previously confused about just invokes a special feeling within me, and it is for this reason that I would love to continue to help others. Not only this, but many of the students I tutored would compliment me, saying that I made the concepts a lot easier to understand. This made me feel special, knowing that (in a way) I had become a figure they could look up to. I was well-known in my previous school back abroad, but now that I have returned to America, I would like to continue helping others if possible.

It first occurred while I was studying abroad, my teacher asked me to help a fellow student who was doing very bad in Math when I was about 12 y/o. Surprisingly, the student claimed that I made all the concepts much clearer, and improved within a month. Ever since, I've been teaching my class fellows and younger cousins, until I became 15 y/o, at which my teacher asked if I could tutor some underclass fellows of mine. I've acted as a tutor ever since, until this past year as I moved back to America.

About the lesson

I like to begin by looking over the topics the student has already learned and is currently going over in school, and use these topics to prepare a test to see where exactly does a student stand in his/her understanding of the topic. I would prefer if I could get these topics before our first meeting, so the student can take this test on our first meeting.

After taking the test, I will help the student with any homework or questions he/she has about the current topic that is being taught in school, and maybe have a short casual conversation to allow the student to feel more comfortable with me. After grading this test, I like to prepare a brief schedule with time for the student to go over homework, any weaknesses in the previous topics from the test, and any questions the student would like to ask me.

I usually keep my price for an hour-long session at $25 when the commute isn't too far, or I would be commuting to the meeting place even if I wasn't tutoring. If I have to go out of my way to meet-up, or the commute is a bit farther, then I would keep my price at $30-$35, with the exact price based on how far I'm traveling.

While you can see the difference in price due to commute, the rest of the price is for the effort I'm willing to put in to help the student. I'm the type of person who goes over what we'll be studying before every meeting, prepare tests which include the concepts the student is learning, and show special questions which will not only include the formulas or pattern, but really test the student's understanding of the concept. I even like to combine concepts too, to help the student when they face such questions further down in the future. I'm willing to refer to various Math books and look over different methods of solving a question, to help the student find the easiest method for him/her.
