About Laura
Welcome! My name is Laura and I am a former New York City educator. For 7 years, I taught both general education mathematics and special education classes in New York City public schools. In addition to my classes, I worked one-on-one with students to provide tutoring and extra support. I love tutoring because I get to be creative in how I teach mathematical content and executive functoning skills to fit the needs of my students! I most enjoy that moment when a student learns a difficult concept and it just clicks.
I have a New York State Professional Teacher Certification for Special Education, grades 7 - 12. I left teaching to pursue my doctorate in clinical psychology, which required full time attendance. I love tutoring part time, because it allows me to stay connected with students.
I have extensive experience teaching Common Core Algebra 1, Common Core Geometry and Pre-Algebra. I have a library of guided notes, lesson plans and study sheets for these courses, as well as games and techniques to help with content acquisition.
I believe that everyone is a "math person". It's just a matter of figuring out how you best learn and retain mathematical concepts. Message me to figure out how we can unlock that potential together!
