About Ben
My name is Ben Krieger and my tutoring company is PolyArt Kids. I get results and connect with students of all ages, whether they need help with learning Algebra 2, ABBA covers, or ABCs. For academics, I particularly those who seem bored with the approach their school or previous tutors have taken. I teach to ensure that the student both understands and *enjoys* the subject we are working on. If they aren’t learning to love and engage with the material on their own, what’s the point? For prospective music students, I have been performing and recording as a songwriter and composer for over 20 years and love helping children and adults learn to play, write stronger songs, and perform with more confidence on stage.
I come from a family of educators who love working with children, so it can be argued that I got started by being born!
- Currently developing a Middle and High School Math Enrichment package for families who want to help their student succeed. - I facilitate a creative mathematics learning environment (PolyArt Kids) for children ages 5-9. - Founded and led Forest Kids NYC, a Central Park-based meetup for families with children ages 3 and up. - Founded and managed an arts cooperative, Green Arts, from 2013-2015. - Masters in Elementary Education from City College. - 15 years of experience tutoring children in both after school and home school settings, Grades K-6. - 5 additional years of experience teaching in the New York City Pubic Schools. - Familiar with NYC Dept. of Education home school requirements and documentation. - 3 years of experience as an adviser and adjunct professor for the New York Teaching Fellows program.

Families with children in private, public, charter, and homeschool situations. I have also worked with aspiring guitarists and songwriters of all ages for over 10 years.
Make sure that you are utilizing the school resources to their fullest extent. As a classroom teacher, I always helped students after school or directed the family to available resource centers at the school. Tutoring should compliment, not replace, school resources.
I worked with a student who was having difficulty navigating the math curriculum at Success Academy. I was able to provide them with the skills they needed to approach the work with more confidence and success.

Ben is an amazing and inspirational teacher. My kids have spent a lot of time with him and they love him. He knows how to really listen to kids and to connect with kids who are used to being listened to.
Ben tutored my 6 year old son over the summer. Ben made the sessions fun and interesting and my son always looked forward to their time together (not an easy task when the weather is warm and school is not in session). My son’s grasp of phonics grew, yet he never felt like he was in a work session. We very much enjoyed Ben.
Working with Ben was excellent experience for our son - every day he had two-ish hours of school work based on grade level curriculum, and three-ish hours of learning through visiting various museums - MoMath, Natural History Museum, Museum of the American Indian, and various other city experiences. It offered a great alternative to the learning situation we have in our home city, Los Angeles, and gave him the type of experiences he's been talking about for the last two months.
I found Ben through a tutoring company. My son needed a "homework helper" when he was in Middle School after being diagnosed with a learning disability. Ben showed great patience and helped him to stay focus and organized. We liked him so much that when my younger son was in elementary school and had some reading issues we went right back to Ben. Noticing my young son's lisp he incorporated music and auditory things into the mix which totally worked in helping him through this awkward stage. Fast forward to the present and my son with learning disabilities is a Junior at Hamilton College and my young son is at the Dalton School and is doing very well. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Ben. He connects to people, especially young people and he really cares about helping them. It's great we don't need him anymore but sad at the same time. (Thumbtack Review)
Ben has been tutoring our 4 year old daughter for about 4 months now. She LOVES "Mr. Ben" and always looks forward to her time with him. He's incredibly flexible and is able to adjust so effortlessly, incorporating whatever distraction or request she has into the session in a productive way. He's able to make everything so much fun for her. Highly recommend!!
Ben has been amazing with both my first and fourth graders. Since working with Ben my fourth grade son has improved his test scores and report card significantly. He is also enjoying learning more because Ben is creative and fun and makes learning seem exciting.
My first grader wanted to be more challenged, and Ben was able to work with that too. Overall an amazing tutor who has helped us all so much. (Thumbtack Review)Ben is amazing with my son! We are really so lucky to have him over to help out with math and reading. My son was immediately comfortable and dove right in to whatever lesson Ben had prepared for the day. I highly recommend him!! He teaches in a way that helps my son relate to the topic and is always thinking of new things that I would never had thought of. He always comes prepared and there is great communication in regards to the appointment times and things we need to work to achieve. Thank you Ben!!
