About Trey

I am a young, recent college graduate in applied mathematics and physics from Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Because of my rigor in mathematics and being a recent graduate, I feel confident in tutoring any mathematical subject from pre-algebra to college analysis courses. I will be able to show you state-of-the-art and more intuitive methods of learning the material. My goal is to make learning math a joy for students rather than a burden.

Since I was young, math has always been one of my passions. My mother is a middle school math teacher and she instilled the love for math in my family early on. I was lucky enough to be able to receive a Bachelor's degree in mathematics at a prestigious liberal arts school in Montana. Currently, I am in the process of getting my Master's in Electrical Engineering at Montana State University, and my extensive math background is making graduate school achievable. I would love the opportunity to help tutor students in math so that they can not only enjoy it as much as me, but also to help set their future college courses and careers up for success.

I have received a BA in Applied Mathematics from Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Although I do not have specific training that relates to tutoring or education, I have had plenty of experience in the courses I will be tutoring. During my time at Carroll, I was a Teacher's Assistant in two courses, one being an applied projects based course that required math skills from a very wide variety of courses. Also, while in high school, I passed the AP Calculus exam so I may be able to lend help to preparing for this exam.

About the lesson

I have always been an advocate for teaching by example. Therefore, when working with a new student, it would be most beneficial for the student and I to work through some of their homework problems (or similar problems) to assess where their skills are lacking and excelling. It can be so helpful for students to see a problem solved in the correct way so that they can perhaps break poor habits or work the kinks out of their thinking processes.

In addition to working on example problems, I would also like to get to know the student and hear what questions or concerns they have regarding the subject that is being tutored as well as their experiences with math courses in the past. Getting to know this information will help gauge what subjects may need to be touched on again and what I can do to help instill the math principles at hand.
