About Jessica

As a chemist, I'm passionate about helping students excel in the science. I use Chemistry principles every day in my day job to solve problems or develop new methods for the lab, and I have tutored a broad range of classes online and in-person.

My motivation for teaching is to simplify chemistry, make it less intimidating with strategies, and turn test grades into A's.

Outside of my Mon - Fri 7am - 3 pm work schedule, I am pretty flexible and can play it by ear when needed.

I enjoy teaching the little tips that can help to simplify intimidating topics in chemistry. Sometimes overthinking a problem gets in our way of solving it, and I'm happy to help direct students in the right direction and answer their questions one-on-one.

My love of tutoring started by helping my younger college teammates with Chemistry homework. Now, I am most passionate about helping students overcome e-learning challenges and simplifying Chemistry topics. Online tutoring has taught me how to gage a student's level of understanding and to engage them with problem solving questions without in-person interaction. Don't be offput by online tutoring because it's definitely possible to engage just as well! Plus, no time is spent traveling to meet up at the library.

I have a Bachelor's in Chemistry and work fulltime as a Development Chemist.

I have tutored a broad range of classes both in-person and online.

About the lesson

My process:

1. Distinguish which concepts the student understands and which are more challenging.

2. While looking at the course materials, focus most closely on the difficult topics.

3. Revisit basics before moving on to the more complex materials, if needed.

4. Offer a big picture understanding of learning each topic and how each topic fits into the paticular chapter. Real world examples are helpful for turning random info into something meaningful as a whole.

I have tutored students from junior high to college level in math and chemistry.
