About Tiffany

Are you looking for help with Math, English, Physics, or SAT/ACT prep? My name is Tiffany Yao, and I used to work at the C2 Education tutoring center. A couple of my favorite subjects to teach are Calculus and college level Physics. I started out as a writing tutor for the University of Houston Honors College while I was an undergrad there. I received hands-on learning and coaching from the professors who educated me in the art of teaching.

I was a teacher and Program Lead at C2 Education for six months. After that, I freelanced as an online tutor some evenings and weekends.

About the lesson

Hello new student! Before the first tutoring session, I will ask you to tell me more about yourself and what areas you want help with. If you have homework or study materials from the teacher or class, feel free to send them to me before. That way, I can prepare helpful materials to enrich your understanding of the subject matter.

During our very first session together, you may bring me a problem, an essay, or your questions depending on what subject it is. Then, we will work through the assignment one step at a time while I ask you how you go about tackling the subject or solving the problem. Don't worry, I will be right there with you to explain and help. Together, we will discover your learning technique, and I will tailor my teaching method based on how you learn.

I worked with students of all ages and grade levels.

I taught all subjects from K-12, but my favorite subjects are English (especially essay writing), Math, and Physics. If you are looking for a tutor in those subjects, please don't be afraid to ask questions! A good tutor should be patient, make you feel comfortable, and build your self-confidence. Your tutoring sessions should be a safe space to learn. I firmly believe that no one should ever make you feel ashamed for not knowing something. That is why we show up every day: to discover new things, learn, and grow.

One of my senior high school students needed a mentor to help him raise his SAT scores and edit his college application essays. A few months later, he texted me with the great news: Not only was he accepted at the university of his choice, he also got into his desired program! His family and I were so proud and happy for him!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before seeking a tutor or teacher, a student should assess whether he or she has spent enough time with the material and homework. If they are still struggling after trying the homework and studying on their own, then it would be a good time to seek help. Then, the student can come ready with questions to make the most of their time with the tutor or teacher.
