About Mark

I've always enjoyed teaching. The most rewarding thing in the world is to help someone understand and eventually enjoy something they once struggled with. I truly believe everyone can learn and understand math and science. Some just need more time with it.

I have a Chemical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, while I was there I tutored as one of my jobs. I am currently building hours to become an ATP and am a flight instructor, so I still use mah and science on a daily basis.

About the lesson

First thing with every student is to understand where they are, what they do understand and where in the curriculum they are. This will give me a baseline to understand where we need to start, whether the challenges they're having is a foundational issue from previous math/science classes (a correlative issue) or if it's just the new material which hasn't been explained in a way that clicks. Depending on which issue it is, depends on how many tutoring sessions per week I would recommend.

it's also important for me to understand which way they best learn. I've worked with students who hate math and science and have always struggled with it, but also I've worked with those who love it but are just having trouble grasping a specific area of it. Understanding how their mind connects things helps me to be as helpful as possible.

My last student I tutored was a high school student. I first helped him from a failing grade to get a B in high school chemistry. The following year I helped the same student on an ad hoc basis with math and then every couple weeks with physics. A lot of the skills we worked on in chemistry translated well to physics, so we didn't need to spend as much time together.

Ensure the tutor is patient and enjoys teaching. If someone has a passion, that passion will translate into the student getting a passion for it as well.

Completing my commercial pilot certificate and going through CFI (certificated flight instructor) school.
