About Robert
Most tutors have experience in their field, but with Engieering Tutoring you get personal instruction from a Virginia Tech aerosapce engineering graduate student with a B.S. in aerospace and minors in math and physics. I have been working with highschool and college students in and around the Blacksburg, VA area for 3 years and succseeded in helping many student in STEM related fields. I enjoy helping students struggling with a concept work through it until they understand it so well they could teach it. Subjects I enjoy tutoring in most are: math, physics, basic chemistry, dynamics, statics, basic fluid dynamics, matlab coding, and orbital mechanics.
I really enjoy helping a student struggling to understand a concept finally break through and realize how it works. I really enjoy hearing from my students how working with me helped them acheve their academic goals and succeed in topics they couldn't before.
I learned about tutoring opportunities in Blacksburg from a freind I went to school with. He introduced me to a few highschool students who needed some tutoring help and I discovered I really enjoyed teaching. From there I started working for a small company based out of Blacksburg catering to mostly local highschool and college students.
I earned my bachelors of science in Aerospace engineering from Virginia Tech with focuses on space and propulsions systems, and minors in math and physics this year and am now enrolled in graduate school at VT next year. This education has given me a very good training in STEM related problem solving and my 3 years working with VT underclassmen and Blacksburg highschool students to tutor them in STEM fields has given my a lot of experience in teaching these concepts.

After getting to know the student and what it is they need to learn, I begin to give basic instruction while adapt my approach to their specific learning technique. For example, for more visual learners I would draw out the problem and show them exactly what it is asking, but for more auditory learners I would write/type it out for them (unless the session is in person, then I would say it) and try to explain the concepts behind the problem itself.
I have worked with everyone between freshmen year of highschool and junior year of college. As long as the student needs help in a STEM related field, then I'm happy to work with them!
Make sure the teacher has a teaching style that works for you. Don't be afraid to speak up if something the teacher says doesn't make sense, and make sure they realize if you're not understanding something; don't just let them assume you understood what they said.
I got the chance to work with a highschool senior struggling in their calculus class. They were having trouble understanding what derivatives were and how they related to the slope of a function at a particular location. After a session with me they not only understood how and why derivatives work, but they were able to go from a D to an A on their calculus exam after working with me. It was a great moment, and I'm very glad I got to work with him.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure you know specifically what subjects and problem types you need help on, don't just give a subject like "math" or "physics." Be able to have a specific problem style in mind.
Be sure to tell the teacher what type of learning you find easiest; for example, being a visual learner is very different than being a reading based learner.

He was a really nice guy who was good at teaching. Bobby worked with me on several topics when I made it into college and he was really helpful. He always knew how to solve the problems I struggled with and always wanted to make sure I understood the concept behind why the correct answer was right and not just which one was right. I understood my first couple years of college a lot more because of him.
Robert was always patient with me and never minded explaining a concept multiple times if I was having trouble. He helped me with math, physics, and chemistry while I was in highschool.
Bobby was really helpful in studying for my physics exams all throughout my freshmen year of college. He helped me understand how energy and momentum were related to force and impulse and that most problems can be solved using multiple methods. Overall, he was a great tutor.
