About Alex

I am an experience tutored who has been tutoring for three years in various subjects at various age levels. I tutor in the social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, and history. I have tutored students of all ages: middle school, elementary school, and high school. I also tutor in standardized test prep, specifically the SAT, SAT subject tests, and AP Exams. I have extensive experience both tutoring standardized tests.

My favorite part of tutoring is seeing the joy on student's faces when something clicks. I deeply believe in the power and importance of education, so it brings me great happiness to see the process of learning in action. I also really enjoy seeing student's sense of pride and accomplishment in themselves when they learn something new or meet a test score benchmark. This inspires confidence in the student and helps facilitate becoming a life long learner, something I am ecstatic to see.

I have always had a passion for education and learning. Ever since I was little, I was known to be a curious kid. As I grew up and entered high school, tutoring and teaching seemed to be a natural job for me to do.

I am a college student at Duke University studying Computer Science, Economics, and Mathematics, so I have taken courses in these disciplines (as well as general education courses). Further, in high school I took numerous AP classes which I tutor in, including but not limited to AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Computer Science A.

About the lesson

When I first begin working with a new student, I first evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in the subject at hand. For example, if I am tutoring a student in the SAT, I will ask them how they are scoring in each section, and which types of questions within each section they tend to do well on and which they tend to do poorly on. Then I will spend the majority of my time working with the student bolstering their weaknesses so that they can become their strengths!

I have worked with a wide variety of students of different ages, ability levels, and in different subject areas. My services are available to whomever needs them.

I am flexible on my rates, but I typically charge $30/hour for academic course tutoring and $35/hour for standardized test prep tutoring. I do not want price to be a barrier to me working with a student, if you are interested in my tutoring services but this price is not financially feasible for you, please reach out to discuss and we can try to work something out.
