About Charlene
I enjoy teaching English grammar, reading comprehension, and writing to students K-12 and have been tutoring in-person and online for four years. It is rewarding to assist students at various skill levels and grades, from a preschooler to a high school senior. Recently, I have been working with high school students a lot more, providing SAT/ACT college-entrance-exam instruction and assisting with application essays. I really enjoy tutoring one-on-one and in small groups because it allows me to engage students more and to tailor my instruction to their educational needs and personalities. This also builds their confidence to succeed.
I also bring a lot of enthusiasm to tutoring because I have always loved reading, writing, and analysis. I have a B.A. in English Literature and a M.A. in Journalism, and I’ve won writing and media production awards. I also have had a full-time communications career (including work at the United Nations, CNN, and in public radio), which enhances my ability to help students understand the importance of English language skills beyond the classroom.
