About Emily
We focus on fear-free riding and specialize in working through issues in a safe and fun environment. Head trainer has 5 years classroom teaching experience, a Master's Degree in Agricultural Education and 8 years experience teaching horseback riding. All levels are welcome.
At first teaching was a way to earn some money in high school. Then I found I really liked it and learned more about it through undergrad and graduate school. I then worked as a classroom teacher for a while after falling in love with working with children. From there I decided that I wanted to work outside instead of in a classroom so teaching horseback riding was a natural fit.

The first day is usually a get-to-know-you day where we learn about what your strengths and weaknesses are and what you want to work on. From then we continue to work with each other to provide feedback on what is working and what is not. If appropriate we will put together a plan and use that to guide our lessons.
I am comfortable working with all ages and all abilities. Due to my classroom experience and Master's Degree I tend to approach my lessons a little more formally and am able to differentiate between different students based on what they need at that time.
There are a lot of horseback riding instructors in CT. Be sure to find the one who you feel comfortable with, can trust, and get along with well.
Last summer I was able to bring one of my students to her first cross country school. It was fantastic to see a girl who was a little nervous to do jump grids at the beginner of the summer, do banks and water obsticals by the end of the summer.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- what are your goals?
- what do you want to learn in your lessons?
- how do you learn best?
- is that barn an environment you can see yourself looking forward to going to?

I love Emily she’s super funny and caring. I have learned so much here and I love all the horses especially Otis man. I also enjoy working in the mornings and all of Wednesday.
Very welcoming and wants to do what’s best for you and your horse! Couldn’t say enough about Chestnut Grove Equestrian Center. It’s like a home away from home!
