About David

Hello! My name is Mr. David Nanninga and I'm a history teacher/historian! I'my currently getting my master's degree in American History at Baylor University, but I also have experience teaching history to high school students in the recent past with great success, especially in AP US History and AP World History. I have a huge passion for helping students become great historians and seeing them succeed and I've also found that I can help students connect to history in a way they couldn't before. I have also had success in preparing students for AP exams, with 75% of my students achieving a passing score.

I got started as a freshman in college, as I realized I wanted to pursue teaching history as a career-as a result I went through the education major at my university, doing teacher's assistantships, student teaching, then getting a job teaching high school history which I held for 2 years before leaving in order to begin graduate school.

Bachelor of arts degree-secondary education-History from Cornerstone University, graduating magna cum laude.

-2.5 years experience teaching high school history (World History, AP World History-Modern, World Georgaphy, US History, AP US History.)

About the lesson

I start by having the student sending me an email/direct message with a brief profile of who they are, what course they need help with, what times work best for them, what their goals are, then I respond with my feedback, then we can discuss further communication via direct messaging/texts/phone calls if need be.

I have worked with students ages 12-18, including students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. I have worked with students with a variety of different academic abilities, but have spent the most time with students in advanced placement courses, particularly those who are challenged by them.

I would tell them to try to reach out to the different teachers for hire to see if they would be a good fit or not, then try 1-2 lessons before you deside if they are a good fit or not.
