About Flora
I am currently a college student seeking a Bachelor's degree in Sociology/Anthropology at Florida International University (FIU). I will also be graduating with two certificates, one in Queer studies and one in Women's and Gender Studies, in December of 2020 at FIU. Over the past three years, I have taken several courses that explore many anthropological, philosophical, and political topics such as African, Asian, American, Latin American, and European culture and history, international relations, race and ethnicity, Greek and Asian philosophy, and more. I am certain that my passion for education, my academic career, and my professional experience have made me a qualified individual to teach social sciences/studies to individuals ages 6 and up.
I am extremely invested in the education of children because I strongly believe that knowledge is the greatest asset one can have in a progressive and continuously evolving world. Being able to teach people from various socioeconomic backgrounds also allows me to learn about systematic oppression, education inequity, and the different styles of teaching that are required by a variety of individuals.

I will start with a brief but effective conversation that allows me to understand their style of learning as well as their interests. Then, I will ask them to take a short assessment that will further help me estimate their level of knowledgeability in social studies so that I can acknowledge their strengths as well as work on their areas of improvement.
I have mentored individuals with disabilities, trained college students in leadership and social justice education, and tutored school-age students at an early education center.
I would suggest direct and honest inquiry for the student to be confident in the person they hope will instill in them extensive knowledge about society, culture, and history.
