About Emily

There are few things in life as rewarding as seeing a challenging concept or idea become learned, studied and understood. Watching students develop and grow in knowledge in otherwise challenging subjects comes with obvious benefit to the student, but also to the teacher that pours care and thought into each individual. It is my passion to fuel a desire to learn within students, and to create an environment in which they can safely thrive. I am committed to supporting each individual I encounter in any and every way possible for their own good and success.

Social studies is a passion of mine, as I carry a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in International Studies. I excelled in my undergraduate work, as I graduated with honor, and am well equipped to share what I learned with students. I tutored college students for 1 year in a course covering the fundamentals of Politics and American Culture/government. This passion for Social Studies and understanding the nature of the world we live in, its governments, its people, and its history fuels my purpose of educating others.

My passion for teaching started in college, when I was tutoring both individuals (one-to-one) and groups of students for our school's general education government course.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a minor in International Studies, and have experience in tutoring for my undergraduate school's tutoring services. I am currently enrolled in a Master of Teaching program and seeking NYS Teaching Assistant certification.

About the lesson

My first priority is to establish common goals with the student. This establishes a mutual purpose of what the student is working towards and how I can best support them. Once we have determined the goal(s), I look for insight on where the student stands academically, gaining information on the challenges, points of academic tension, as well as their learning style(s). With this information, I create a plan tailored to their academic needs. My goal in this process is to gain a deep understanding of the students needs, best learning practices, and academic goals.

I have worked mainly with high school (AP Government) and college students on basic coursework in American History and Government. These students have ranged from those who significantly struggle academically, as well as honors students.

I would advise students to look for a tutor that is dedicated to teach in a way that is specific to one's needs. Flexibility, reliability, patience and determination from a tutor is key.
