About Andrew

As someone who greatly benefitted from extra support in my studies, I wanted to pay it forward and help others who may be in need. Whether you're struggling to remember what a political machine is, can't figure out which one is El Niño and which is La Niña, or just want to boost that B+ into an A, I am more than happy to help you reach your goals.

I have wanted to teach since I was in high school, and finally achieved that goal in 2019 after graduating with my Ed.D in curriculum and instruction. I am certified in the state of Texas to teach social studies to grades 7 through 12 (although my strengths are government, US history, and geography!).

I have been in education for almost seven years now. I have been a graduate assistant at the university level and a high school social studies teacher during that time. Both of those jobs have given me the knowledge and experience needed to sit down with someone and really help them tap into their true potential to understand and realize their learning objectives.

About the lesson

We will begin with introductions, followed by what the learner's goals are. Typically, I like to know some information such as study habits, what access to resources they have, and any specific areas that need extra reinforcement.

I consider myself very blessed to have worked with such a diverse range of students over my career. Students from a variety of socioeconomic, racial, and religious backgrounds can be found in the district I teach at, and it has only made me a better teacher. Finding that middle ground with each student and building the rapport is necessary to reach through to your learner, and the exposure to a multitude of cultures only helps to further prepare me.

Try to find someone that will be willing to work with you that is also patient. Some tutors pair better with different learners. Whoever you do decide to go with as a tutor, make sure you are up front and clear about what your expectations and goals are for the time you will spend together.

Recently, my students took their final state standardized test. I couldn't be prouder of the work that they put in all year and it was so rewarding to hear them tell me how confident they feel about their performance on the test.
