About Geri

There is nothing more rewarding than working with and helping students succeed. I love teaching, and my background makes me well qualified as a History, Literature and Writing Tutor.

I have been teaching for 25 years and I am passionate about the subjects I teach and the learning process. I have a both a Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science and a Master's degree in History. In addition, I have a Michigan Professional Teaching Certificate in the subjects I teach. Moreover, I have been awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award, and I have also received numerous grants to study abroad at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. In addition to my regular history classes, I have created numerous literature classes based on classic novels, such as The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in the Rye, that I teach via Zoom to students in China.

I understand the needs of my students and how to present topics and communicate with them to help them improve their understanding of the topics. Students describe me as "patient, passionate, supportive, and quick witted." I am always looking for ways to enrich the educational experience of my students.

My first teaching job was teaching tennis. I always found teaching very rewarding and it was an easy decision to pursue a teaching career in college.

In addition to my academic qualifications (BA in History/Political Science and MA in History), I have continued to be active in my professional development over my 25 years of teaching. I also have been tutoring students for many years, including my recent creation of history and literature classes for students in China.

About the lesson

The first step is to understand the type of support a student needs and then put a plan in place to help a student get the most out of our sessions. In addition, it is important to get an understanding of the student as a person to build a productive academic relationship.

I have worked with all kinds of student, including international students.

The key to any learning experience is to find someone your feel comfortable working with. Although any tutor should have the key qualifications, a good working relationship is important to get the most out of the tutoring time.
