About Jillian

I have taught high school and middle school students for the past 5 years. I have worked with students from grades 6-12 and enjoy helping others learn. My main focus is American History and World History, but I have also taught Life Skills and been an Independent Studies Teacher assisting students with math, science, language arts, and elective courses.

I have a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Studies and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education. I have been called an organizational Jedi and was honored as one of the four "Most Inspirational" teachers at Sonora High School in 2019. I am thrilled to continue working with students as a tutor, coach, and friend.

I worked in finance for over a decade. I knew I wanted to do something else but I wasn't sure what would make me happy. I did lots of research and decided to get my masters degree in education. I have always enjoyed learning history, reading it, watching documentaries and historical fiction, listening to audiobooks and biographies. I like to imagine what it must have been like to be in someone else's shoes. I already knew a lot of history but I had no idea how to teach it to others. My masters program prepared me well but the real test began when I had my first classroom. My personal growth as a teacher has been rewarding. I love teaching and am excited to help students find their individual paths and learn how to achieve their dreams.

I have a bachelors degree in history and a masters degree in secondary education. I have a California Single Subject Teaching Credential for Social Studies. I have over 5 years of experience in the classroom and love helping students achieve their goals.

About the lesson

I respond to new students as soon as possible, and definitely within 2 business days. I prefer to meet with students via Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. I am flexible to your needs and happy to correspond by email, text, or phone calls. During our first connection, I want to hear from you so I can understand your goals. From there, we will work together to build a plan and help you be successful.

Try to be realistic and honest about your needs. If you are not sure how to define your needs, be willing to share with your teacher so you can define them together.

I am extremely proud of my work as the head coach of the freshman girls' basketball team in 2020 and the opportunity I provided to 40 students to join the Hamilton Education Program. Through this program, I was able to take 40 students and 4 other teachers to see Hamilton: An American Musical in San Francisco for only $10 per student. We studied the play for over a month, students prepared their own performance pieces, and we were able to participate in a Q&A session with some of the actors before the show. It was an incredible experience!
