It really depends on the student. Some have experience and some don't. It also depends on what style of music they are interested in. With all students, I like them to start off with the Alfred guitar method book one or the Mel Bay method book one. Meanwhile, I also teach them other fundamentals in the style that they're interested in the most. Over the years I have found this method to be very effective. It keeps them excited and interested.
