About Dave
Hello, I'm Dave Young the instructor for all lessons here. I'm one of those people you hear about that don't have a "regular job". Music is all I do. I play in bands, do a solo act, teach, write, record and even produce music videos. I've been in the music business for more than 35 years and have been teaching even longer.
It's never to late to learn how to play. I've had students from the ages of 5 to 75. I was 15 when I started teaching and one of my first students was in his mid 70's.
When I was about fourteen years old my best friend asked me to teach him and my neighbor who was about 70 at the time, heard me playing and asked I would be interested in giving him lessons.
Music is my only job. I have been a professional musician for more than 30 years and have been teaching even longer.

We always start with the basics. If you already know them, we speed through but I always start there to make sure there are no bad habits that can hinder the students learning process.After that we start building on what ever is needed to get the student to where they want to be.
My students have been between the ages 5 to mid 70's
There are many ways to learn. There are also things you can learn that make playing easier. Being an actual working musician has taught me several beneficial ways to approach what seemed to be dificult situations. Those things don't come from the class room unless the teacher has that working experience.
I decided to look up a student I had about ten years ago to see if he had pursued a music career at all. He was an excellent student and I was happy to find that he was still taking music classes at ASU as well as writing and performing his own music.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Most everyone has a favorite music style and that's their main goal to play. I want them to consider that once they learn to play, the windows open and the desire to play more than one style will come.

Perfect! Dave is a really good teacher, teaching the basics but at the same time allowing me to play some favorite songs that tie into the teaching of the basics. Have really enjoyed the lessons and Dave as a person.
